Practical Anatomy for Yoga Teachers with Beccah Bartlett

  • Yogamour Yoga and Healing Arts Center 1 Worman's Mill Ct, Suite 11 Frederick, MD, 21701 United States (map)

This 8-hour training day introduces practical anatomy for yoga teachers in a clear, usable way. We’ll focus on the basic concepts that help you understand how bodies move in yoga. We’ll review simple anatomical language such as anterior and posterior, medial and lateral, and superior and inferior. We’ll explore the three main planes of movement: sagittal, frontal, and transverse, and connect them to common yoga poses. We’ll also look at basic joint actions like flexion, extension, abduction, rotation, and lateral tilt. Students will learn the main parts of the spine, how major muscle groups support movement, and how joints are designed to move and where their natural limits are. We’ll also review movements of the shoulder blades, including protraction, retraction, elevation, and depression, to support healthier shoulder mechanics. The goal is to give students a simple framework for understanding movement so anatomy becomes a helpful teaching tool rather than overwhelming information. Training day starts with an asana practice, and includes a 30 min lunch and 45 minute dinner break. 8 CEUs are available.
