Choose Kindness ☮️🕊️
Hello Friends,
Ahimsa is the first Yama of the first limb of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and is defined as non-harming or non-violence. We are taught at an early age to practice ahimsa toward others. Be kind. Share. Listen.
As we enter the hottest and most humid part of the summer, we’d like to ask: how are you practicing ahimsa on your yoga mat?
We see you. We are so inspired by your dedication to your practice. Practicing hot yoga when it’s 90 degrees or more outside is no small thing. Please make sure you are staying extra hydrated before and after class. That is ahimsa too.
There is an expression in yoga, sthiram sukham asanam. It speaks to the balance between effort and ease. It’s okay to skip a vinyasa. It’s okay to take child’s pose. Every time you come into a forward fold, you’re signaling your parasympathetic nervous system. You’re telling yourself to slow down. That, too, is ahimsa.
We have a pro tip for you! Different mats offer varied levels of grip during a hot yoga class. Rubber mats spun with hemp fibers provide excellent traction in the heat, and we’ll soon be carrying them in the Yogamour Boutique. For extra support, try using a small towel under your hands or a full length mat towel. Yogamour’s small towels are available in the boutique, along with our new organic grip spray to support your practice.
Wishing you wellness,
Geni and the Yogamour Team
