Do you OM? 🕉️
Hello Friends,
My yoga journey began what feels like a lifetime ago at the Downtown Frederick YMCA, in a mirrored dance studio kept at a brisk 68 degrees. One day, my teacher invited me to join her at another studio and to my surprise, we ended our practice with a shared round of OM. I had never felt so connected in a yoga class before.
OM, a Vedic Sanskrit word, represents the Divine Presence and Power of the Universe. It is the “sound of all sounds,” born from the vibrations of nature itself. Who knew my little voice could carry so much power?
It got me thinking about yoga and sound, and how deeply they shape our practice. Most of our classes are paired with music, and mine tend to flow to the beat without me even realizing it. How do you feel about sound in your practice? Could you imagine it without it?
At Yogamour, we are lucky to have a whole soundscape of offerings. Briyana’s Shakti Rising and Resting with gongs and chanting is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Amanda’s Gentle Yoga Flow the English Horn and Sound takes place on Wednesdays. On weekends, you can enjoy a rotating lineup of Sound Baths in our acoustically amazing space where Dorianne offers her monthly workshops of Resonance and Rest: A Full Moon Sound Experience for an even deeper, lunar-inspired journey into sound and relaxation.
So, next time OM is offered, soften your gaze, take a deep breath, and let it flow from the belly: A (ah) U (oo) M (mm).
Warmly,
Jaime & The Yogamour Team
