This is Our Story!

Are you familiar with the Yogamour vision and mission? Did you know that when you attend a studio class or pop-up that you are supporting the mission? We'd like to share our story!

As the founders of Yogamour non-profit, we began with a vision of bringing the aspect of ‘seva’ or selfless service to under-resourced populations. The word 'seva' is a Sanskrit word often associated with the facet of yoga meaning ‘service’. However, it is more than just a simple desire to help others. It is an expression of compassion for others and a genuine desire to uplift those around you.

We lead our first global Yogamour Yoga Volunteer retreat to India in 2012 which was a great example of 'seva' in action. Our volunteers brought their unique talents to the children in a small local community school in Jaipur. The community offerings were diverse and leveraged the unique talents of each volunteer; they taught English, repaired school buildings, built foraging edible gardens, and more.

At Yogamour, we continue to offer annual retreats to India and Thailand, as well as smaller and more targeted trips to Myanmar and Cambodia, and have successfully established community centers, pop-up vision and dental clinics, and other health-based services. One recent partnership with the Berkey Water Filtration Organization has resulted in the establishment of clean water stations that now provide clean water to over 1,500 people.

On the state side, Yogamour’s Outreach Program is led by a team of trauma-informed and social justice driven instructors that provide yoga and mindfulness-based programs for local in-need populations which include addiction recovery, LGBTQ+, first responders, incarcerated individuals, sexual abuse and domestic violence survivors. Our studio, in Frederick Maryland, assists in raising funds to support the Outreach Programs by offering public yoga classes, workshops, yoga teacher training, and other community events.

Thank you for being a part of community and meaningful change!
