Have You Met Our Peaceful Warriors? ☮️
Michelle Jackson and Rebeccah Bartlett are just two of the many Peaceful Warriors that Yogamour has out there serving the community and living out the mission. They both offer yoga to those on the path of addiction recovery at Mountain Manor and The Phoenix Recovery Academy as well as Frederick’s homeless population.
Yogamour is a registered 501(c)(3) and our mission is to offer yoga and mindfulness as tools for establishing self-regulation and as an adjunct therapy for survivors of trauma, marginalized communities, and in-need populations.
Yoga is increasingly being used in substance abuse treatment programs and on the journey through recovery. According to a National Survey on Drug and Health, an estimated 21.4 million people in the United States who are 12 years old or older battle with substance use disorder. In our own backyard (Frederick County, Maryland) the statistics show in 2016, there were roughly 2,000 deaths from opioids alone.
This holistic practice shows success in reducing withdrawal symptoms, drug cravings, and the chance of relapse. Stress, anxiety, and depression are common side effects of drug withdrawal and yoga provides a healthy outlet to cope.
Yoga is not just exercise - it’s an integration of breathwork, movement and shapes with the body, and meditation are just a few of the core concepts of yoga. The practice of yoga provides a safe, accessible, and empowering way for those on the road to recovery to explore healing in their bodies and teaches self-regulation as an adjunct therapy.
