Connections, Conversations, and CommUNITY! 🕉️📿
Hello Friends!
Did you know that the word yoga (pronounced “YOguh”) comes from the Sanskrit word meaning “union” or “to yoke”? It’s a powerful reminder that yoga is about connection involving body, mind, spirit, and community.
In the Western world, many of us are introduced to yoga through asana, the physical posture practice. Today, even children are learning mindfulness in school to help regulate their nervous systems as they grow. The physical practice becomes a gateway to a healthy and often non-competitive lifestyle grounded in awareness and movement.
This past weekend, one of Jaime’s Hot Power Basics students found herself struggling. Living with rheumatoid arthritis, she felt discouraged mid-class. But she reminded herself it was her body and her practice. Even without doing every pose, as long as she was breathing, she was practicing yoga.
After class, she and Jaime talked about how yoga is much more than postures. It’s about showing up, being present, and feeling connected. Yoga is community.
So next time you feel frustrated on your mat, take a breath and look around. You are practicing alongside your Sangha, your yoga family. You are practicing yoga. And you are doing it just right.
