Ayurveda to the Rescue for Spring Allergies!

Happy Spring Friends!

It's that time of year... it's finally warming up. The trees and flowers are beginning to bloom. The ants are out and the cars are lining up at the carwash to rinse the never-ending pollen off. Is it wildly irresponsible to crank the air conditioning in April, or just a bold move against the pollen invasion?

As someone who has been studying Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, for some time now, I’ve grown to love the way its simple, seasonal wisdom helps bring balance to our bodies and minds. With spring in full swing, I’d love to share a few Ayurvedic tips that may help ease the transition and calm those seasonal allergies.

  • Start your day with hot water and lemon before your cup of coffee

  • Strengthen your agni (digestive fire) and eliminate ama (toxicity) with digestive teas like Tulsi, Ginger, or Trikatu

  • Favor a Kapha-pacifying diet: avoid cold, heavy, or fried foods. Go for lightly cooked dark leafy greens and whole grains like brown rice. Swap the ice cream for some fresh fruit

  • Consider using a Neti Pot with Himalayan salt for daily nasal rinses to keep allergens at bay

Much like our mat practice, with a little effort we can make a big difference in how we feel and our quality of life. That can and will have a ripple effect in the world.

With love and gratitude,
