What's the Story Behind the Poses?
Dear Friends,
Have you ever wondered why yoga poses have the names they do? Hanumanasana, the full split, is named after Hanuman, the famous monkey deity known for his strength and legendary leaps and his story begins with a very playful mistake.
Before he became Hanuman, he was a mischievous child named Anjaneya. One morning, he looked up at the rising sun, thought it was a giant glowing mango, and launched himself into the sky to take a bite.
The gods panicked, lightning bolts flew, and eventually Anjaneya transformed into the mighty Hanuman we know today.
Anjaneyasana, the low crescent lunge, honors Hanuman in his younger form, while Hanumanasana, the full split, represents his epic leap across the sky.
So next time you’re flowing through class, just remember…yoga poses come with stories too.
Warmly,
Geni and the Yogamour Team
