What and why savasana❓
Hello Friends,
Let’s talk savasana. It is that sweet, peaceful pause at the end of practice and, in many ways, the whole point of yoga. Savasana is a Sanskrit word meaning “corpse pose” or “peaceful rest,” and it is the moment when movement, breath, and stillness finally settle into the body. For many new students, it is the hardest pose of all. We live in a go go go world, so lying still can feel almost impossible. But with time, savasana becomes the place where the real magic happens.
Traditionally, you lie on your back with arms and legs relaxed, but comfort always wins. Side lying, belly down, props under the knees, blankets everywhere, whatever helps you melt. The goal is simple: feel safe, supported, and able to let go.
Earlier this week we filmed a playful behind the scenes video about how differently people savasana. Casey skipped it entirely and did sun salutations, Bonnie showed up in sunglasses and dropped her Stanley, and Carrie tucked herself in like the Queen of Rest she is. For the record, we would never film real students in savasana. That moment is sacred.
So when you reach that quiet end of class, how do you savasana? Do you drift off into the next thing on your list, or do you give yourself full permission to rest? You gave your time and energy to be on your mat. Let yourself enjoy every minute, from start to finish.
With gratitude,
Geni and The Yogamour Team 💜
