Sequencing and Theming Teacher Training

  • Yogamour Yoga and Healing Arts Center 1 Worman's Mill Ct, Suite 11 Frederick, MD, 21701 United States (map)

As practitioners of yoga, we come to class with an understanding that the teacher will usually have a theme layered into each practice, and that theme will be enhanced by using a series of shapes to prepare our bodies and minds to fully embody the theme. As we deepen our practice, whether as a teacher or a student, creating and developing our sequences can be a big challenge and let’s face it, it can be incredibly stressful! How can we create practices that continue to keep our students, and even ourselves engaged as we learn to more fully dive into awareness of our bodies and minds?

This theming and sequencing training will teach and support participants through the creation of a variety of class themes, sequences and sequence ‘bites’ via group discussion and shared practice. This weekend will lead us to deepen our understanding of how to not only create a class theme, but to explore various kramas of each shape so that all students can participate in your class offering while also inviting them to open and explore their bodies and minds. Participants will leave this weekend with up to five newly created themes and sequences to help build practices to share with their students.

About Melissa Perlman: Melissa started her yoga journey in 2016 as a way to heal, after she lost her father to Parkinson's disease. As a student, Melissa began to notice the impact that her yoga practice had on her personal journey and she wanted to better understand why and how this affected her so deeply. In 2018 Melissa began her yoga studies with Maria Garre and the New Mexico School of Yoga and received her 200 hour RYT in Prana Flow (TM). Melissa loves to discover and offer new approaches to various shapes in yoga practice and loves to offer a journey of being able to discover how the individual students' body can transform in shapes through her inclusive approach to yoga. Melissa is also trained and has certifications in restorative and aerial yoga. An avid reader and traveler, Melissa loves to find adventure and inspiration at every opportunity.
